Titan’s Swim Season Comes to a Close

Thunder Ridge Titans swim team’s amazing season came to a close November 6 as they competed at state.

This season was a great one for the Titans Swim Team. The girls’ team was undefeated the majority of the season, only being outscored by Rigby High School. The boys’ team also won the majority of their meets, only being surpassed by Idaho Falls High School.

Although this season was not just about meets, it was also a lot of personal growth and record-breaking. Coach JaNeil Jones stated, “I am very proud of each swimmer’s determination and improvement this year as there wasn’t a single swimmer who did not break a personal record at the district swim meet on October 29th. We also broke 17 out of 22 school records this year and had 11 swimmers qualify for state this year.”

According to swimmer Holton Bundy, the triumph of the boy’s team stemmed from the team “working on trying to place in state in our relay, which we did. And we were trying to make sure that we built an atmosphere of hard work amongst our team.”

At State, Titans Swim saw many finalists and medal winners including:

  • The boys’ team finished 5th as a team.
  • Harlie Taylor finished 5th in the 200 freestyle.
  • Holton Bundy finished 2nd in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
  • Tayson Jones finished 5th in the 100 butterfly.
  • Quinton Smith, Holton Bundy, Tayson Jones, Gary Southwick finished 5th in the boys’ medley relay.
  • Holton Bundy, Tyler Green, Tayson Jones, Gary Southwick finished 2nd in the 200 freestyle relay.

Next year the Titans plan to hold tryouts as they started the season with 43 registrations, and due to crowded lanes were forced to turn people away. Coach Jones stated that hopefully with tryouts, “anyone who wants to dedicate themselves and work hard will get a place on a team. We hope traveling will help the swimmers push themselves to be eligible to travel on the varsity team, as well as give them experience against other high schools.”
