Boise State Wins Mountain West

The Boise State Broncos men’s basketball defeated San Diego State 53-52 in the Mountain West Championship to claim the title and an automatic bid to The NCAA tournament. When the Boise State Broncos came into this season they were not even predicted to get past the first round of the Mountain West tournament; well they beat the odds and won the whole tournament.

The Broncos came into the first round as the #1 seed, and they first took on #8 seed Nevada. And man did they have to fight, as the Broncos won a nail-biter 71-69. Their next opponent Wyoming was defeated more comfortably 68-61 to move them into the championship game vs San Diego State.

And like all games against San Diego State this season, the game was close and tightly contested, but the Broncos pulled it off with a great defensive stop at the end to win them the game 53-52 and move on to the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Avid Broncos fan and Thunder Ridge Senior Caden Ramirez was so excited for his team to win the championship. He says “it feels awesome it was a lot of tough years of watching them not win a lot of basketball games, but seeing them do good and win a championship just felt amazing.”

Sadly the Broncos could not repeat their dominance in the NCAA tournament as they fell short in the first round to Memphis 64-53. The loss does not take away a great season and a championship. Now Boise will look to repeat that success next season and try to repeat as conference champions.
