Thunder Ridge Track and Field had great success at the Rigby Invitational. The meet was held at Hyrum Blackburn Track and Field and started promptly at 10 am. Twelve teams from 12 different schools from around the area competed.

Thunder Ridge had many personal records set at the meet and the team scored high overall. In overall scores Thunder Ridge scored 3rd in men’s varsity with 102 and women’s varsity 8th with 32.

In the field, Dallin Dennert placed 4th in the High Jump and Elijah Johnson placed 1st in the triple jump.

In track Thunder Ridge dominated, especially in the men’s varsity division. Three students placed 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the 100-meter dash. In the 800 meter dash Thunder Ridge had Jessica Moss place 5th and Cooper Andrews placing 2nd. The 4×100 relay team placed 1st with Max Whitehouse, Tao Johnson, Elijah Johnson, and Kody Robinson running.

Elijah Johnson, Thunder Ridge Senior, competed in 4 events and placed top 3 in all. With hopes of competing at the collegiate level, Johnson aims for new records and bettering himself at every practice and meet. Johnson has been competing in track for 2 years and is favorable toward long jump and triple jump. He jumped 22’2″ in the long jump, taking second. He also jumped a new personal record at 43’10.25″, winning first. “Before a meet I like to hang out with my friends. Have a good time and relax,” said Johnson.

If this meet is a sign of the upcoming season, it looks like Thunder Ridge will be taking home some medals throughout the season.
