Mariupol: War Pressure Skyrockets

Brendan Winkel, Staff Writer

If you’ve been keeping up with the news on the Russia-Ukraine war or have been on social media recently, you’d likely have heard about Russia surrounding the city of Mariupol. They’ve slowly been stockpiling up around it, pressuring the soldiers and citizens still inside to fight or surrender.

They’ve resisted for quite a while now, saying that they’ll fight for the country. And I hate to be a pessimist, but I don’t think that they’ll be able to fight the vastly larger Russian army forever, if even long at all.

Seeing how the Russians have done quite some horrific things to the Ukrainians in other cities, such as shooting innocent people for no apparent reason, bombing residential areas, and showing a pretty lackluster amount of mercy, it is hard to believe that they wouldn’t decimate the city of Mariupol given the opportunity.

And, seeing how Putin isn’t planning to stop invading anytime soon, and he doesn’t show any empathy towards Ukraine, it is only time until Mariupol will likely fall.
