Thunder Ridge’s Drama Department To Put On Bye Bye Birdie
April 25, 2022
The spring season is very exciting for Thunder Ridge, from spring sports to dances, it is a very busy season. But arguably one of the most important events coming up this spring here at Thunder Ridge is the spring musical, Bye Bye Birdie, being put on by our very own drama and music departments in just two short weeks.
The musical will be performed during the first weekend of May on the 5th, 6th, and 7th. It will be $5 for children and $7 for adults. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door at trpac.ludus.com.
Bye, Bye Birdie is a musical comedy set in the year 1958 and follows a young man by the name of Conrad Birdie, (played by Skylar Hinton) an Elvis-esque young man, both in personality and in style. Birdie has been selected for the draft and is off to war much to the dismay of his manager Albert Peterson, (played by Garret Shippen), who says that Birdie leaving for war will destroy his carer and the company works for. Peterson’s secretary/girlfriend Rosie Alvarez (played by Micaela Loera) then urges him to create a song contest with the winner earning a kiss from Birdie, as a last-ditch effort to keep him in the public eye. The winner of this contest, Kim MacAfee (played by Eva Frey) does indeed receive a kiss from Birdie, much to the dismay of her boyfriend Hugo (played by Beau McKean).
When asked what he was most excited about for the play, Senior Garret Shippen said, “I am so excited to be part of an amazing production, the cast, directors, and everyone involved with it are all amazing people!” Later Shippen goes on to say, “If you are thinking about coming, or even if you’re not, it’s going to be a super fun experience and you don’t want to miss it!”
Bye, Bye Birdie is sure to be one of Thunder Ridges’s best and is something everyone should go and see to support our school and everyone who worked tirelessly to make this musical a reality. Tickets are on sale now, so be sure to buy them before they sell out!
