Freak Snowstorm in April

Emily Jones, Staff Writer

Idaho experienced a cold front that brought a freak snowstorm on April 11th. Throughout the week Idaho Falls received 4 to 6 inches of snow and high, cold winds. With this surprise snowstorm, the Idahoahans bundled up for the weather and went on with their week with no surprise about the crazy weather.

Due to Idaho being infamous for having larger temperature ranges, freak snowstorms or even some heat waves aren’t uncommon.

Emmanuel Labra Resendiz, a Senior at Thunder Ridge, has never liked the snow and couldn’t wait for it to melt. “I was pretty upset it snowed because we already have long winters here and I just want summer. And it’s freaking April so there should not be snow!”

Resendiz isn’t the only one who doesn’t enjoy the freak weather. Emma Ramson, Junior at Thunder Ridge also hates the snow. Her least favorite part is driving in it and having to carry around a big winter coat.

Throughout the week temperatures dropped and high winds kept blowing in the storm. Compared to the usual 50 to 65-degree weather in April, it dropped to 30 and lower. This always comes as an unwanted reminder of what spring in Idaho is like.

The storm did clear out on Saturday and temperatures rose to the normal temperature. Idahoans dropped their heavy winter coats and traded them out for shorts and t-shirts. But they will always keep the coats close by because freak snowstorms aren’t out of the ordinary here.
