Britney Griner Detained at Russian Airport

Former Baylor and current WNBA player Brittney Griner was detained in Russia on February 17th, 2022 for what the Russian government is saying they found vape cartridges containing hash oils in her bag at the Moscow airport.

Griner, who is American playing over in Russia as well as in the United States, is being held in Russia for drug charges, and getting her back to the United States is going to be tricky. Brittney did break a Russian law that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The United States government is working extremely hard to get home but the media could have a big part in her safe return.

As the more public the story is the least likely she gets home anytime soon I.S. Representative Colin Allred explains to pop culture that the situation is one that the government is working hard to get her home but it will not be easy Allred says “They should just know that our government, the state department folks like myself in congress we’re going to do everything we can do to get her home”.

Brittney’s wife Cherrelle’s statement about her wife is very emotional; she goes on to say “Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me regarding my wife’s safe return from Russia”.

Senior at Thunder Ridge, Terrence Hansen thinks that it was irresponsible for her to bring that on an airplane but thinks she should be released “it is ridiculous she was using that sort of thing but I hope everything works out for her ”.

Britney Griner is an American. No matter what she did she should be returned to the United States. We are all praying for a safe return for her.
