Upper Valley Toastmasters

Upper Valley Toastmasters

Brooke Morgan, Staff Writer

In Rexburg, at Madison High School, they are doing a thing called Upper Valley Toastmasters. This club is supposed to help you with your public speaking and your leadership skills.

The Grammarian helps you with your vocabulary. They take notes of the strong and weak use of the language to help improve their vocabulary. The Table Topics Master will pick topics and members of the club create impromptu speeches. The topics have to be in good taste and speeches have to be 1 – 2 minutes long. This exercise helps members practice speeches with no time prepared ahead.

A General Evaluator assigns the members of the club speeches to evaluate, and they last about 2 – 3 minutes long. The evaluators should provide constructive criticism and positive feedback.

This club can help you if you are having any troubles, but don’t forget that you will have different roles in the club. You might make new friends, and this club can help with your speech writing and public speaking abilities if you struggle with that.

Maybe this is something that Thunder Ridge can have in the future.
