Gaby Petito’s Cause of Death Determined
October 28, 2021
Gabby Petito’s cause of death was ruled strangulation in the manner of homicide according to Teton County Corner, Dr. Brent Blue, in a report released October 12. Additionally, unidentified remains were found in the search for Petito’s fiance, Brain Laundrie, on October 20.
Blue reported to CNN that “Petito is estimated to have died three or four weeks before her body was found on September 19, 2021 in the Bridger-Teton Forest in Wyoming”. Few other details were released about her autopsy, as Blue is “legally limited” on what details he can share.
Who killed Petito and why still remains a mystery. Some people like Idaho Falls resident Jolee Nelson assume, “I think it was her finance. She was obviously in an abusive relationship. I would be totally shocked if it ended up being someone else”.
Petito had spent the summer on a cross-country trip with Laundrie and documented it via her vlogs and social media. Laundrie returned to his parents’ Florida home where the couple lived in Petiot’s van on September 1 without Petitio. She was reported missing on September 11 by her family.
Petito’s remains were located on September 19 about a 5-to-10 minute walk from where her van was last seen in a campground in Wyoming.
Laundrie disappeared during the beginning of the search for her whereabouts. He has since been missing presumably in a Florida nature reserve. On October 20 some of Laundries’s belongings were located and remains were found but have not yet been identified.
