Kanye West Changes Name to Biblical Reference: “Ye”
October 27, 2021
The rapper, formerly known as Kanye West, legally changed his name to “Ye,” as it’s the most used word in the Bible.
The rapper legally changed his name to “Ye,” which has been his longtime nickname. His full name was Kanye Omari West but has now changed with no middle or last name.
In August 2021, he started a petition to change his name and cited ‘personal reasons’ according to the paperwork obtained by Entertainment Tonight. The Los Angeles Judge, Michelle Williams, approved the petition on Monday, October 17th. West hinted at the name change as far back as 2018 in a Tweet saying: “the being formerly known as Kanye West. I am YE” along with the release of his 8th studio album titled “Ye”, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 200.
Ethan Lebel let out his thoughts, stating, “I never liked him, but it was a stupid decision to rename himself to Ye. He’s always been crazy, he probably did it for clout.” Ethan and many others on Twitter have the same opinions, agreeing that West has been ‘losing’ it for a while.
This name change is one of the many big changes in West’s life. Back in February his former wife, Kim Kardashian, filed for divorce after the two had been living apart for some time. He released his much-anticipated album ‘Donda,’ which is another album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 200. This made him the seventh artist to have 10 number one albums according to Billboard.
