Super Mario Bros Movie Revamp Info Dropped
October 21, 2021
In 1993, the first Super Mario Movie was released, being one of the worst flops in the film industry, with a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes and terrible backlash from Nintendo fans. Fortunately, Illumination studios and Nintendo are hoping to shine new light on the past disaster, with a 2022 revamp coming.
One of the strangest things about the new movie is the way it was cast. The main role of Mario went to Chris Pratt, who sticks out from all the other comedic actors with his new action movie appearances. With Seth Rogers as Donkey Kong, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, the addition of Chris Pratt seems to be nothing more than a cash grab, trying to get the attention of audiences by using big names like Pratt himself.
According to Thunder Ridge Freshman Austin Atwood, the decision of Chris Pratt being cast as Mario was quite strange. “He’s not even Italian, so…” he said, which brings up a good point. Why would they cast non-Italian actors as the famously Italian plumbers?
As no real news or decision-making has been said on this casting choice yet, it is too quick to come to conclusions. Plus, this controversy could end up being in vain, as the actors could pull off a great job as the characters.
The movie itself seems to be strange, as movies based on video games have been hated on for many years now. However, the directors of the movie, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the owner of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, and the inventor of Mario himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, are all very excited to show the world what they have been working on for some time now.
Lamar Winkel, an engineer and father of two, was quite excited about the new movie. “It sounds cool; I just hope it’s PG, with all of the stomping Mario likes to do in his world.” Winkel likes to watch movies in his spare time, so it would be wise to take his word for things.
The movie is planned to release on December 21, 2022, leaving a lot of room for speculation and production time. It is going to be quite the interesting spectacle of a movie indeed.
