Cassie Laundrie Speaks Out About Brian Laundrie
October 21, 2021
Cassie Laundrie, Brian Laundrie’s sister, spoke out with ABC News on October 5 defending her family and asking her brother to turn himself in. Brian Laundrie is a person of interest in the death of Gabrielle Petito.
Twenty-two-year-old Gabrielle Petito was reported missing by her family on Sept. 11 after traveling across the country with her fiance Brian Laundrie. Laundry returned to his Florida home in Petito´s van the couple had traveled in, but Petito was nowhere to be found. On Sept. 17 Laundrie´s parents reported to police that they had not seen Laundrie since Sept. 14.
The North Port police began searching Carlton Reserve when Laundrie´s family said they believed that’s where he had gone earlier in the week. On Sept. 21 a set of remains were found in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, which were later verified to be Petito’s with the cause of death being strangulation.
Cassie Laundrie, Brian Laundrie´s sister told ABC News in an interview, that aired on ¨Good Morning America¨, “I would tell my brother to just come forward and get us out of this horrible mess. I really wish he had come to me first that day with the van because I don’t think we’d be here.”
On August 12 police responded to a report of domestic violence in Moab, Utah, and pulled over Petito and Brian. Cassie Laundrie told ABC News that it was “pretty typical of them to argue and try and take space from each other.” But said she never witnessed any signs of domestic violence.
Petito was on a four-month-long trip with Brian across the country. The couple left New York on July 2; their travels were documented on Instagram and YouTube, posting videos and photos of their adventures. While investigating a report of domestic violence, a bodycam recorded Petito claiming she had hit Laundrie first; a 911 caller had told a dispatcher “the gentleman was slapping the girl” and he “hit her” before they drove away in the van.
Update: On October 21, according to FBI, a set of remains was found in Carlton Reserve in North Port, Florida. The remains were found near a pile of belongings believed to belong to Brian Laundrie. Remains had not been positively identified when this story was published.
