Cross Country Goes the Distance

Anabelle Andrews, Staff Writer

The Thunder Ridge Cross Country team is doing an amazing job this season. The boy’s team placed 4th and the girl’s team placed 7th at the Bob Conley meet. To get to State they have to be one of the top 3 teams in the district.

Thunder Ridge Senior Cooper Andrews started running cross country in 7th grade. He said, “ It seemed kinda fun and I didn’t have anything better to do.” He has dealt with shin splints this whole season but has yet to let them affect his running. To make it to state, Andrews would have to get top 12 on his team. He’s planning on making it to state and getting in the top 3. To keep motivated Andrews accomplishes any goal he sets for himself. He doesn’t let anything stop him from doing his best in a race.

Thunder Ridge Senior Asia Taylor started running in 7th grade, quit, and then started back up again in her junior year because all of her friends were doing Cross Country. This season is going really well for Taylor, even though last year she broke her back and isn’t as fast or as strong as she was before her accident. Due to her injury, Taylor is not planning on going to state this year; if she did she would have to run a lot faster. When asked what the weirdest thing that happened to her this year, Taylor joked, “I peed myself after my first race in soda springs, haha.”

Some people on the Cross Country team have had better chances of going to State than others, but everyone is having an amazing time. The next Cross Country meet is on October 20th at Freeman Park. The girls run at 3:00 pm and the boys run at 3:45 pm. Come and Watch if you can.
